… (this is meant as a continuation from my last post)
I was reading Bioinformatics Computing by Bryan Bergeron when I stumbled across a brief description of databases. 3 different types of databases was brought into focus: relationship, hierarchical and object orientated. It was interesting, considering the fact that the only type of database I've known is mySQL. Then I delved a little deeper and realised that I have a business plan. Ok, the jump from database to a business plan is a wild and far, somewhat like from earth to the moon, but I'm not going to elaborate on the details.
But this took me to learn SQL seriously and especially on database design. I went around like a madman, asking the people around my camp on SQL. It brought me to learning more about my friends (I didn't know that one of them is a avid Mac OS purist and animationist), heard a couple of business plans and inherited some precious experience of setting up shops and restaurants in Singapore.
I found these two tutorials on database design to be really enlightening.
MySQL & mSQL
MySQL Database Design
These two tutorials are quite similar but I think reading them both reinforces each other and I've found that to be useful.
